DHARMA K RETURNS TO MENLA - an exploration of Spirituality, Meditation, Yoga, and Consciousness
April 2nd - 7th, 2024
Presenting Our Second Dharma K Program—an exploration of
spirituality, meditation, yoga, and consciousness in concert with the ego dissolution properties of the legal psychedelic medicine ketamine. Our aim is to share with each other and to experience the impact of ketamine on contemplative practice and realization, emptiness and fullness, silence and connection, community and compassion, tolerance and respect for differences, love, and empathy.
The ketamine experiences will be embedded in a program of meditation, presentations on contemplative and psychedelic practices, and community building. The event is held in the full confidentiality of personal disclosures. There are a limited number of opportunities to present at the event and we will consider proposals from those who wish to make offerings.
Dharma K will be held at the Menla Retreat Center in Phoenicia, New York between 4 PM on April 2nd and noon on April 7 th . Participation is limited to forty participants. It is sponsored by the non-profit Ketamine Training Center of the Ketamine Research Foundation and by the Menla Retreat Center.
We are requesting that applicants have experience with both
mindfulness (in the broad sense of contemplative practices) and psychedelic medicine as a basis for participation, though not necessarily ketamine. This is designed to be a mutual exploration rather than a training program.
Clinicians are welcome and we will provide an intensive exploration of ketamine’s effects, with attention to the different sensitivities we each have. This will inform clinical practice with ketamine but is not a substitute for learning about Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy in one of our formal training programs.
Participants will have the opportunity to personally experience
ketamine at three different doses in the context of contemplative practice, as well as to sit for others experiencing a medicine session. Our plan is to administer ketamine via intramuscular injection, although other routes of administration may be considered depending on the needs of specific participants.
Organizers are Ron Siegel and Phil Wolfson in association with Gina Arons, Will Hamilton, Gita Vaid, and Elizabeth Call. The KRF BIPOC scholarship fund will offer scholarships, and there will be limited general scholarship support by application—consideration occurring after acceptance to the program. We are trying to make this as financially feasible as possible.
There will be pre-and post-assessment measures to enable a view of the impact of the program on each of us and our practices, and an evaluation form.
The Application fee of $500 is compulsory as with all our trainings, $400 of which is refundable, and the Tuition Fee is $3500 for the week. On acceptance, you will be given a link to select your room and board at Menla which is a separate cost.
We are inviting a limited number of prior participants in the first Dharma K program to return as there have been multiple expressions of desire to do so, but we are also providing opportunities for new people to participate.
A link to Phil’s Tricycle paper on Buddhism and intoxication is posted here: https://tricycle.org/article/was-buddha-atheist/
Other papers and training videos will be suggested as we move
towards April and we welcome your suggestions.
We want to welcome you to our unique and exciting program and to the conscious and loving community we will form together.
Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) training for BIPOC providers
April 7th - April 12th, 2024
The Fundamentals of the BIPOC KAP Training Initiative
Ketamine assisted psychotherapy (KAP) training for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) providers is an essential step towards addressing disparities and promoting social justice within mental healthcare. This initiative recognizes the historical and ongoing injustices faced by BIPOC communities in accessing quality mental health services and aims to rectify these disparities.
From a social justice lens, the need for this training arises due to several interconnected factors:
1. Addressing systemic racism: BIPOC communities have long faced systemic racism that perpetuates disparities in access to mental healthcare. This training acknowledges the unique experiences, cultural nuances, and historical trauma that BIPOC individuals may bring to therapy. It seeks to empower BIPOC providers to better understand and address the specific mental health needs of their communities.
2. Culturally responsive care: Traditional mental health practices often fail to consider the cultural contexts and specific needs of BIPOC individuals, leading to inadequate or ineffective treatment. Ketamine-assisted therapy training for BIPOC providers emphasizes the importance of culturally responsive care, recognizing the diversity of experiences and tailoring treatment approaches accordingly. This approach fosters trust, safety, and understanding between the provider and the client.
3. Reducing mental health disparities: BIPOC communities continue to experience higher rates of mental health challenges, including depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and substance abuse. By training BIPOC providers in ketamine-assisted therapy, we aim to bridge the gap in mental healthcare access and reduce disparities. This training equips providers with tools to effectively address mental health concerns within their communities, ultimately improving overall well-being and resilience.
4. Empowering BIPOC providers: Representation is crucial in mental healthcare. Training BIPOC providers in ketamine-assisted therapy not only increases access to quality care for BIPOC individuals but also empowers BIPOC professionals to play a significant role in their communities. It offers opportunities for BIPOC providers to become leaders and advocates in mental health, helping to shape policies, reduce stigma, and promote equitable access to care.
In summary, the implementation of ketamine-assisted therapy training for BIPOC providers aligns with social justice principles by addressing systemic racism, promoting culturally responsive care, reducing mental health disparities, and empowering BIPOC professionals. This initiative aims to create a more equitable mental healthcare system that recognizes and values the unique experiences and needs of BIPOC communities.

KTC Presents its Advanced Sharing for KAP Practitioners at our beloved Menla Retreat Center in the Catskills
September 24th - September 29th, 2024
The Advanced Sharing Retreat is open to KPA and others who have attended different KAP trainings and who have at least begun to practice KAP. It will include group experiences—psycholytic mornings and higher dose afternoons—all IM–and presentations and case discussions. Our program is formed with attendees as a process of mutual interests. We will be soliciting your input into the program. We expect sessions potentially to include: Successes and Failures; Case Presentations as Consultations; Practice Issues; Working in Groups; Couples; Adolescents; Our Various Methodologies; KAP and Sex Therapy; Ketamine and Emerging Psychedelics; Diversity, Identity and Culture; Commercialization and Where We Are Heading; Expanded Awareness and Movement in KAP; Trauma and KAP; Update on Science; Ketamine Abuse and Misuse, Meditation, Rituals and the Ketamine Experience-and other topics as we bring them to our attention. We would conduct the program within a contemplative practice set. Please see this as an opportunity to expand our connections and skillful means. Please see this as an opportunity to come together as a community of devoted practitioners. We are committed to sharing and fun. All of our trainings and events have created kindness and affection. We welcome your application and attendance.
As this is a Sharing event, aside from Organizers, Providers, and our Support team, we are not paying for Leaders as we do in our Fundamentals program. In the spirit of collaboration, we are asking applicants to pay their tuition fees on a sliding scale by your own estimate in an honor framework of fees of $3000-$4500. regardless of degree. Fees to Menla for room and board are arranged separately with Menla.
BIPOC Scholarships and limited reductions in fees will be processed on request and dependent on registration as we are a non-profit organization.
Participants will be requested to provide their suggestions for topics and their potential offerings to add to the scheduling. Zoom sessions will precede the event for planning and participation. Our intention is to have a sharing that elevates all of our practices conceptually, methodologically ,spiritually, and practically. And to support the growth and development of the KAP community of practitioners, and psychedelic assisted psychotherapy.
Please apply now as there is large interest in the event based on the results of our survey.
Tuition:
$3,000 – $4,500 sliding scale
Room and board separate at additional cost payable to Menla.
